When it comes to Obihiro cuisine, the most famous dish has to be butadon (pork bowl).
Although I’ve had butadon before and even bought butadon sauce to make it at home in Taiwan,
I’ve never actually eaten butadon in Obihiro itself.
So, this trip to Obihiro was solely for the purpose of eating butadon!!
Since I arrived in Obihiro at 7 PM, the original butadon restaurant was already closed,
so I went to this highly recommended place inside Obihiro Station called Butahage.
Upon entering, I noticed they only serve butadon here.
I ordered the special large butadon for ¥1160.
It comes with a side of pickles and a bowl of miso soup.
Pickled radish
The miso soup had an unusual ingredient that looked like tofu skin but tasted different… XD
If you find the rice lacking in flavor, you can add some sauce from the bottle on the table.
Since each order is made fresh, there’s a bit of a wait. The wait was tough because the aroma was so enticing… XD
Finally, it arrived. Here’s a photo of the entire set.
Six slices of meat!
The rice here is just plain white rice, but each grain is distinct and quite tasty.
Close-up of the pork!! There’s quite a bit of fat on the meat, but it doesn’t have a strong odor.
In the end, of course, I finished everything. Satisfied!!
That’s a simple review of Butadon no Butahage.
Personal Food Rating: ★★★☆ (3.5)
Review:
This butadon is pretty good, especially with the sauce; it’s really not bad.
However, some parts of the meat are a bit tough,
and I personally prefer softer loin meat… unfortunately, you can’t choose.
Another downside is that there’s quite a bit of fat on the meat…
and almost every slice has it.
For those who don’t like fatty meat, this can be quite a torment.
