During my previous visit to Hiroshima, I had already dined at the famous Reichen. This time, I decided to try another renowned restaurant called Chinchikurin.
(Thanks to Dango for the info: Chinchikurin translates to someone who is not very tall, and in Japanese Kanji, it’s written as 珍竹林.)
The Hiroshima set meal seemed quite enticing, comprising a serving of creamed oysters, a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, a deep-fried Momiji Manju (served with ice cream), and a drink—all for just ¥1980 (which totals ¥2079 with tax included).
As for the drink.
The creamed oysters were for five people, with one large serving consisting of about three oysters.
All I can say is, they were delicious!
Wisely also ordered some grilled oysters as an extra.
The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki made its appearance.
With a single slice, the distinct layers were evident.
After returning to Taiwan, I visited a restaurant for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki again. I must say, the quality in Taiwan’s restaurants has significantly declined. What used to taste great now seems to have lost its appeal!
Finally, there was the deep-fried Momiji Manju and ice cream.

Chinchikurin is a strong contender against Reichen. They offer a wide variety of items and enjoy good business. If you don’t get a chance to queue for Reichen at Hiroshima Station, you might as well visit Chinchikurin at Hondori Shopping Arcade.

Five stars: Exceptionally delicious; the kind of meal you’d want to have again.
Four stars: Tasty; a satisfying meal but not memorable.
Three stars: Not bad; worth a try if you happen to be nearby.
Two stars: Average; a safe choice if you want to avoid disappointment.
