Genghis Khan is a famous delicacy in Hokkaido, and I personally love it, especially at Asahikawa Daikokuya. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve eaten there.
Before heading to Furano, Yong recommended that we must try this place: Shirakaba.
This strengthened my resolve to dine here…
Shirakaba originated in Obihiro,
but they have a branch in Furano. So, when you come to Furano to see the lavender, you can also stop by for a meal.
Shirakaba and Rokkatei are located nearby, and there’s free parking available.
Shirakaba’s business hours are only from 11:00 to 15:00.
So, when I drove from Sapporo to Furano, I headed straight to Shirakaba.
The exterior of Shirakaba restaurant looks brand new.
Since it was the weekend, there were quite a few people.
They only offer two types of meat here,
One is Genghis Khan for ¥480,
Lamb Genghis Khan ¥530.
The grill here uses gas to heat the iron plate.
The kimchi we ordered was quite spicy.
The Genghis Khan I photographed wasn’t very clear.
My wife and I aren’t the type to grill slowly~
We just put everything on the grill at once.
The sauce is quite special, with miso added for flavor.
After grilling for a while, the rice was finally served~ XD
However, the rice was really delicious.
There were some yellow bits in it, not sure what they were~
In any case, if you’re coming to Shirakaba, you must order the rice. Don’t miss it~
The rice comes with a side dish of pickled radish.
Since we felt it wasn’t enough, we ordered another 2 servings of Lamb Genghis Khan.
Grill, grill, grill~
Of course, we ended up paying a hefty price~ ¥4290
(In total, we ordered 6 servings of meat, 1 medium bowl of rice, 2 small bowls of rice, 1 bowl of miso soup, one serving of kimchi, and one draft beer)
Next, let’s take a look at the orchard outside the restaurant~
They’ve planted many grapes here~
Don’t pick the grapes!!
Besides grapes, there are also blueberries.
After eating, we checked out Rokkatei next door.
Upon entering, we realized it was like a large supermarket,
selling many Rokkatei products,
and they also offer free coffee~^O^
That’s a brief introduction to Shirakaba – Genghis Khan.
As for Rokkatei, it was just a side visit, so here’s a quick mention~
Finally,
my personal rating: ★★★☆ (3.8)
Regarding the meat quality, the regular ジンギスカン is a bit tough,
whereas the ラム meat is much better.
However, the ラム is pre-seasoned and quite salty, so you don’t need to dip it in sauce while eating.
And you must eat it with rice, or you’ll get very thirsty~
Rating criteria:
Five stars: Super delicious; makes you want to come back for more.
Four stars: Tasty; feels good after eating, but not memorable.
Three stars: Not bad; if you’re nearby, you can give it a try.
Two stars: Average; if you don’t want to risk a bad meal, you can eat here.
One star: Not my favorite; potential disaster.
When driving here, you might not find the exact location, so make sure to note down the phone number.
The nearby Rokkatei map code is 49090424, which you can use for navigation.
Alternatively, remember the Furano Wine Factory (phone: 0167-22-3242), as Shirakaba is nearby.
Initially, I only noted the map code, but since I didn’t fully understand the car’s navigation system,
I first navigated to the Wine Factory and then followed the signs to Shirakaba.
