【Saga】Takeo Cuisine – Ide Champon

Many people know about the famous champon noodles from Nagasaki.
But they might not be aware that Takeo also offers this delicious dish~
However, I’m curious, who was the first to translate it as “strong stick noodles” ?!
The original name of this noodle is ちゃんぽん, which sounds more like “champon,”
and it likely originates from the Minnan dialect’s word for “eating.”
But I think “strong stick” is quite a stretch…
It’s as odd as translating the chef Liu Angxing to “Little Master Chef”…
(Want to know why it’s translated as “Little Master Chef”? Check Wikipedia)

This restaurant is called Ide Champon.

Their main dish is champon noodles, priced at ¥680 per bowl.
They offer variations: special, extra noodles, extra vegetables, or both extra noodles and vegetables.

For those who don’t like noodles, they also have rice bowls.

Once you place your order, the chef starts preparing it.

I happen to have some travel information about the Takeo area, which introduces the typical ingredients of champon noodles.

These noodles taste better with a sprinkle of black pepper.

Before long, the champon noodles are served~
You can see cabbage, chives, bean sprouts, and fish cakes.

Next up is the special champon noodles,
which mainly include additional wood ear.

The height of the dish is almost as tall as my phone.

The broth is very rich, and those who like tonkotsu ramen will probably love this soup.
The broth is somewhat similar to Taiwanese assorted noodles,
but it has less of a seafood flavor and more of a vegetable sweetness.

The noodles are thicker, as they make them in-house, so they differ from other ramen noodles.

Originally, there was a raw egg added inside,
but I already mixed it in…

This is what it looks like halfway through.

Finished!!

Finally, the manager, who looks like Hiroyuki Sanada, came over to chat with us…

That’s a simple introduction to Ide Champon ~
