Seeing station bentos always makes me want to buy one~
This time, in front of Hakata Station, there was the Fukuoka Spring Festival, which also marked the first anniversary of the Kyushu Shinkansen’s opening.
So, they held a Kyushu station bento sale.
I bought the No. 1 Kyushu station bento: Saga Beef Sukiyaki Bento.

However, a lot of people were already lining up at 9:30, but the organizers didn’t specify when the sales would start ~
I waited until 10:00 for the sales to begin… XD

I was near the front of the line, so it was easy to get this top-ranked bento.
In fact, not many people bought this No. 1 bento.
Because to buy this top-ranked bento, you have to pay a significant price: money!!
This bento costs ¥1260, which is quite expensive~
If you go to Sukiya, you could get four beef bowls for that price…
If you go to Yayoi-ken, you could get two set meals…

After buying it, the next decision was where to eat this bento~
I decided to take the train to Dazaifu Tenmangu and eat the bento there.

This bento is said to use A5-grade Saga beef.

What is Saga beef?

This Saga beef bento is produced by Kairodo at Takeo Onsen Station…
Unfortunately, when I took the train to Takeo Onsen Station the day before, I didn’t see this restaurant (located on the north side of the station, 1F).

When you open it, the bento looks like this~
It’s really oily and fragrant…
The bento was still a bit warm…

The side dishes are all root vegetables.
The second one is lotus root, which is quite tasty~

Next, let’s look at the sukiyaki bento.

Although it’s a bit oily, it’s quite delicious.
For Taiwanese who are used to hot food, it might not be as good as expected.

These semi-transparent konjac strips are quite flavorful.

As for the rice, I didn’t find it very tasty.
It was a bit mushy…

So, that’s the No. 1 Kyushu station bento: Saga Beef Sukiyaki Bento ~
My personal food rating: ★★★☆ (3.5)
Comments:
Although this sukiyaki bento is No. 1, it’s also quite expensive (¥1260).
I think those interested in station bentos should give it a try
but don’t set your expectations too high.
After all, Taiwanese are used to hot food, and eating this bento is not as satisfying as having a cheap but freshly made beef bowl.
Rating Criteria:

Three stars: Not bad; if you happen to be nearby, you can try it
Two stars: Average; if you don’t want to risk a bad meal, you can eat it
