Nara Cuisine – Performs fast mochi pounding every day – Nakatanidou

One of the representative Nara delicacies is Nakatanidou, known for their impressive performance of quickly pounding mochi in their shop. They have even appeared on a popular Japanese variety show, the TV Champion Competition, and won the title of Mochi King. At first, I thought it might just be a gimmick, but surprisingly, their mochi is quite delicious~

Walking out of Kintetsu Nara Station, heading Higashimuki Shopping Street, and continuing until you reach Sanjo-dori Street, you will be able to see it.

Inside the shop, there are rows of mochi displayed.

The reason for its green color is the addition of mugwort.

So this is called “Yomogi Mochi”, and now it has risen to ¥150.

Next to it is the mortar that will be used for the performance later.

The performance has started, and at first, only two people were vigorously pounding mochi. Honestly, this is really tiring…

The boss turned red in the face.

The boss’s actions seem to have been hit… XD

After the mochi is pounded, it will be placed into the machine at the back, and then the red bean will be wrapped inside.

Soon, several mochi balls were made.

Hot and steaming…

When you cut open the mochi, you’ll find a perfectly intact red bean filling inside. The outer layer is hot, soft, and chewy, and it tastes pretty good… (I personally think it’s even better than Akafuku).

Above is a brief introduction of Nakatanidou~

Comment:
At first, I really thought that this would be more of a gimmick than delicious, but after taking a bite, I realized that I underestimated it~
And the red bean is so intact, and when you take a bite, it immediately melts…
However, because I just finished lunch, I can’t eat anymore… So, one is enough…
