In early November, due to a friend’s birthday, I came across numerous foodie groups highly recommending Xindian on the internet. Thinking that a birthday celebration for my friend should be nothing short of spectacular, I immediately made a reservation. As many online reviews had warned, it was indeed challenging to get through on the phone! Just when I was about to give up after numerous attempts, the call finally went through. Phew! Luckily, I managed to secure a reservation, or else it would have been me letting the side down. And so, our party arrived at Xindian in full force to celebrate the birthday~ (I later found out that Xindian also accepts online reservations, so no more endless phone calls~ Xindian online reservation-). https://inline.app/booking/-LDKPhTT6bNhwjRVHpC2?language=zh-tw)
We’ve arrived at the scene! Wow~ it’s Xin Dian Hotpot~
There were five of us dining together, seated around a round table, sharing a large-sized hotpot. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively, with music playing in the background. However, since we weren’t seated too far apart from each other, we could easily chat without having to raise our voices.
White Soup – Garlic White Soup, it’s loaded with garlic, hence the name! Just kidding~ It’s actually called Garlic White Soup. The soup is incredibly aromatic, with a strong garlic flavor, truly living up to its name. Red Soup – Spicy Hot Pot Soup Base, it’s filled with plenty of duck blood and tofu. The staff would occasionally ask if we want to add more duck blood or tofu, but we declined, we wanted to eat meat, haha! Most spicy hot pot soup bases are not edible, but we secretly scooped a bowl to taste, wow~ The soup base is fragrant and hits you with a stimulating mix of Sichuan peppercorns and spices! (Boss, give me 10 bowls! I’m going to drink 10 bowls tonight! I just love that stimulating feeling~ hehe) You can definitely have a few more sips, but of course, the stars of the show are still those beautiful ingredients~
The ordering system here is based on a ticket system, and the food is served quite quickly. All dishes from the same order are placed on a large plate and delivered together. The last order is taken 30 minutes before the end of the meal period.
Let’s start with the soup base, which comes in two varieties: a spicy red soup and a garlic white soup. The white soup is full of aroma, with a strong garlic flavor. Next, let’s talk about the ingredients. The meats are all of high quality. The Angus beef is on the leaner side, with just a hint of marbling, making it perfect for those who don’t want too much fat. The beef tongue, when dipped in the pot for 3 seconds, tastes crispy and sweet. The beef short ribs, also cooked for 3 seconds, reveal a tender pink hue when taken out of the pot. The fat is evenly distributed, and when you take a bite, the interplay of the lean meat and the fat bursts with an irresistible sweetness in your mouth! The meat was the highlight of my meal today, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it on my way home. Highly recommended!!!
The quantity of seafood ordered will differ from the amount served at the table, with only one portion served at a time, so you can only order as much as you can! But everything is very fresh! Although there’s only one type of shrimp, it’s sweet and has a nice bite! Other items like clams, oysters, fish slices, and so on are also very fresh and sweet.
Vegetables, dumplings, beef tripe, and fried dough sticks are also quite delightful. Vegetables paired with a garlic-flavored soup base accentuate the sweet and savory taste of the vegetables. Fried dough sticks coupled with a spicy hot pot base offer a balanced texture and the unique aroma of the hot pot. Every bite is truly satisfying.
The beverage selection is quite diverse, including juices, sodas, and milk tea, among others. However, it’s not very friendly for those who don’t prefer sweet drinks, with hot tea being the only option.
There are four types of desserts, each looking incredibly exquisite. My personal favorite is the mille-feuille. With each bite, not only can you taste the distinct layers, but the aroma of the cream also fills your mouth. It’s a dessert that leaves you in a delightful mood! There are also a variety of ice cream options, featuring brands like Haagen-Dazs and Cold Stone. Definitely worth a try!
The cost per person for this meal was 698+10% (during weekend dinner hours), and the overall dining experience was quite good, with both the speed of service and the quality of the dishes being excellent. The only downsides were that you couldn’t order multiple servings of seafood at once, and the lack of sugar-free cold drinks was a bit disappointing… All in all, it’s a restaurant worth revisiting.
