Located in the West District of Taichung, the popular dessert hotspot “Kinber Made” was established in 2014. It is famous for its ice cream made from natural ingredients. In 2018, it opened a branch in the West District of Taichung and introduced popular desserts such as Taiyaki and fresh cream rolls. In recent years, it has also launched a series of Instagram-worthy fresh cream swiss roll. Apart from the cream roll that reveals a Mount Fuji-like pattern when cut open, there are also seasonally limited flavors. These cream rolls are not only visually appealing but also delicious and photogenic! In the Mid-Autumn Festival of 2021, they even introduced a salted egg yolk series of fresh cream swiss rolls. Among the many flavors, this time I got my hands on Kinber Made’s new flavor – “Pineapple Salted Egg Yolk Fresh Cream Swiss Roll”. If you’re a fan of salted egg yolk, you definitely can’t miss this!

I usually eat desserts at the store, but due to the pandemic, I switched to having the fresh milk roll delivered frozen to my home. As soon as it arrived, I eagerly unboxed it right away.

The side of the box notes the production date and the expiration date. It can be stored frozen for 14 days, but usually, it’s eaten within a day. XD.

When you’re ready to eat, it’s recommended to slice it to your preferred thickness using a clean metal blade. Since the fresh cream swiss roll is frozen, if you’re using a kitchen knife, it’s suggested to heat the knife before cutting for a more aesthetically pleasing result. After slicing, let it thaw at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes, and then you can start enjoying it! (You can take this time to snap some good photos.)

The exterior boasts a tea-infused cake, followed by a refreshing pineapple cream in the middle, and at its core, the savory taste of a salted egg yolk filling.

After thawing for about 10 minutes, it has the texture of ice cream upon tasting. The sweetness is most refreshing, not cloying or overly sweet. The cake on the outside doesn’t steal the show. The first flavor you get is the sweet and sour aroma of pineapple, followed by the grainy texture of salted egg yolk at the end!

Eating the outer layer of the cake alone, you’ll notice a faint aroma of roasted tea. The pineapple cream in the middle is not at all cloying or overly sweet, and you can actually taste the chunks of pineapple! It’s truly impressive!!!

Once it’s completely thawed, the texture becomes as smooth as cream, the sweetness intensifies significantly, and the aroma of the pear is greatly enhanced. Personally, I prefer the taste after it’s been thawed for 10 minutes – it’s the most refreshing and delicious!
