【Hokkaido】Sapporo’s Lively Festivals: Enishi Market and Tanuki Festival

During my 2-day stay in Sapporo, I happened to catch two festivals
One was on 7/21, the Enishi Market in the Susukino area
The other was on 7/28, the Tanuki Festival in Tanukikoji.
However, I was just passing by.
I didn’t sit down for a drink or a bite to eat.
Even worse, the photos I took on 7/28 at the Tanuki Festival were all on my phone.
So the photo quality isn’t great, please bear with me.

Let’s take a look at the Enishi Market first.

This year marks its third edition
Besides open-air stalls, there were also concerts

In the summer,
Kyoto people dine by the river;
Sapporo people eat on the streets while listening to music.

This year, it was held for three days, from 7/19 to 7/21

The event ran from 17:30 to 22:30
The main location was from Sapporo Station to 6th and 7th streets, and in front of Susukino Hanakouji and Shintou Hotel.

The other festival was the Tanuki Festival in Tanukikoji.
However, I only attended one evening; I missed the daytime event (Tanuki Mikoshi Parade)
This event turned Tanukikoji into something like a Taiwanese night market
There were activities, BBQ, and stalls with everything you could want
(Some shops offered draft beer for ¥100 a cup)

But the crowd was massive.

Even though the roof of Tanukikoji was open, it was still smoky
So, my phone camera often couldn’t focus… XD

That’s the situation of the Enishi Market on 7/21 in Susukino and the Tanuki Festival on 7/28 in Tanukikoji this year.
If you have the chance to visit Hokkaido during the summer, don’t miss these lively small festivals~
