I visited Lake Shikotsuko over a decade ago, but it was already dark, so I didn’t see much.
This time, I made a point to stay overnight at Lake Shikotsuko, choosing the onsen Hotel, Lakeside Villa-Suimeikaku.
It was perfect for visiting the Shikotsuko Ice Festival at night.
Front Desk.
Lounge Area.
After the staff served drinks, I realized halfway through that I should take a photo XD
Opposite the lounge area is the entrance to the restaurant.
Soon, our room was ready.
On the way to the room, I noticed fresh flowers in the corridor.
Turning a corner, the hotel was larger than I had imagined.
Room Sign.
Inside the Room.
We booked a twin room, which had a massage chair.
Massage Chair.
Sitting in the massage chair, you can enjoy the view outside the window.
You can see Mount Eniwa.
Looking back at the room, it was quite spacious.
Bedside Table.
Tea Area.
The top shelf had a capsule coffee machine.
The middle shelf had a capsule assortment.
The bottom shelf had a refrigerator.
Capsule Coffee Machine.
Capsule assortment, including coffee and green tea.
Drinks in the fridge are free to take, no extra charge.
There were two beers, two soft drinks, and two bottles of mineral water.
Wardrobe.
Two sets of pajamas were provided.
Toilet.
Washstand.
Personal hygiene kit, including two face masks.
Hair Dryer.
Bathroom.
The bathroom had transparent glass, but there were curtains you could pull down.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t semi-open-air.
However, having an onsen in the room was still nice.
Time for dinner.
Dinner at Suimeikaku was Italian cuisine.
Drink Menu.
There was even a cheese menu, divided into imported and Hokkaido varieties.
Each serving was ¥800, which seemed a bit pricey.
Tonight’s Dinner Menu.
Let’s start with a toast.
Appetizer.
Bread.
Oil for dipping the bread.
Clam and mushroom soup, delicious.
Squid Ink Pasta.
It had small squid in it.
I forgot what kind of fish this was.
The leaf behind the fish was unique, with a slightly crispy texture.
Dessert.
Yes, you read that right, dessert was served before the main course.
Plum-flavored ice cream, very special.
The main course was beef.
It was delicious, but the portion was tiny, gone in three bites.
Another dessert.
This was ice cream.
After-dinner drink, I chose iced coffee.
As we left the restaurant, I noticed the fireplace, and it was real fire.
The hotel had a small shop inside.
Breakfast the next morning.
Breakfast was a set meal, starting with iced water and salad.
Then came the main dish and rice.
This pot of rice was quite large.
There was also a bowl of miso soup with a unique flavor, and it had yellow petals that looked like chrysanthemum.
After-meal drink and dessert
Dessert was strawberries, citrus, and jelly.
This is the receipt for our stay, for two people, one night with two meals, excluding drinks, totaling ¥57,540 (including onsen tax).
This was our experience staying at Lakeside Villa-Suimeikaku on 2019.02.07.
Personal Thoughts:
I think the room was nice, and the in-room onsen was great, but it’s best to keep the door open for better air circulation.
The downside was that the dinner portions were a bit small, so it’s easy to get hungry. Make sure to buy instant noodles or snacks before checking in.
Because if you stay here in winter, it’s very inconvenient to drive out again.
