This time, we visited “Yubetsu Tulip Park” and “Shibazakura Takinoue Park“, witnessing the off-season scenery.
Yubetsu covers a total area of 125,000 square meters, with 70,000 square meters dedicated to planting around 200 varieties of tulips.
The best time to admire the tulips is from mid to late May each year.
Shibazakura Takinoue Park boasts a 10-hectare sea of shibazakura, making it Japan’s largest shibazakura spot. The peak blooming season is from early May to early June.
I visited in early June, which is the off-season for Eastern Hokkaido. The advantage of visiting during the off-season is fewer crowds, but the downside is missing the best scenery.
Below is the already harvested “Yubetsu Tulip Park”.
The peak season for Yubetsu Tulip Park is in May. I visited on June 10, so I was quite late.
Only the shops here still had items for sale, and there was ice cream to enjoy.
So, I headed to another attraction: Shibazakura Takinoue Park, which also peaks in May.
As a result, I could only see a few shibazakura.
Another benefit of visiting during the off-season is that it’s free!!
If you visit during the shibazakura season, there is an entrance fee.
Adults: ¥500, Children: ¥250
So, this is what shibazakura looks like.
Looking down at the parking lot from the hillside.
Unexpectedly, I saw a few tulips here.
Signs prohibiting stepping on the flowers were everywhere, indicating that many people must have stepped on them.
This is the situation at Shibazakura Park during the off-season in 2016.
The 2016 shibazakura season at Takinoue Park was from May 7 to June 5.
I visited on June 10. Although the shibazakura season had ended, I could still see a few shibazakura.
It just wasn’t as beautiful. Maybe I’ll visit again in the future.
