This is my experience from September 2023, when I was departing from Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport and wandered around the duty-free shops.
Since the international terminal’s controlled area is not very large, divided into north and south sections,
both sections are quite small with few shops, so you can finish browsing quickly. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other.
Moreover, the products sold on both sides are quite similar. If you’re just looking to buy some snacks, you can simply choose the shop closest to your boarding gate.
New Chitose Airport Duty-Free Shop Locations
Below is a map of the New Chitose Airport duty-free shops. The white area in the middle is the immigration checkpoint.
After passing through immigration, head south.
So, the right side of the map, which is the left-hand direction, is the south section.
The left side of the map, which is the right-hand direction, is the north section.
Each shop’s operating hours vary, generally opening only when there are flights.
However, the Hokkaido Souvenir Shop on the south side was closed when I visited in September, so the photos are from an earlier visit.
Anyway, the items it sells are similar to those in other shops.
Central Area
After passing through immigration, you will immediately enter the duty-free area (controlled area).
In the central area of the controlled zone, there is a large screen that captures live footage of visitors.
Additionally, there is an animated bear, which is quite interesting and attracts many people to stop and watch.
Here you can find information about the lounges.
General airline lounges are 30 meters to the left.
Here is a map: blue areas are shops or cafes, and red areas are restaurants.
Restaurants are mainly concentrated in the central “Hokkaido Market Food Street.”
Shops and cafes are mainly on both sides.
Left Side – South Section
Head left, and you will immediately see the Royal Lounge, which operates from 07:30 to 21:00.
This is the new lounge used by major airlines like EVA Air and China Airlines.
However, I wasn’t flying with these airlines this time, so I didn’t get a chance to check it out.
This time, my Scoot boarding gate was No. 69.
Walking ahead, there is a duty-free shop mainly selling cosmetics.
Opposite, there is a small stall selling ice cream and drinks.
Drinks include: Ayataka Green Tea, Coke, and mineral water.
Further ahead, it’s still mainly cosmetics.
Further ahead, it’s still the same duty-free shop, all cosmetics.
A bit further, this area mainly sells souvenirs.
Here you can find Tokyo Banana.
They also sell some frozen seafood.
Further ahead, there is Royce, and also LeTAO, Jaga Pokkuru, and Shiroi Koibito.
Besides cookies and snacks, there are also airplane models and toys.
Vending machines.
Further ahead, at the end, there is another souvenir shop.
Since it’s too far from the boarding gate, people flying with Scoot rarely walk this far.
They sell Jaga Pokkuru, Black Thunder, and Sapporo Agricultural College milk cookies.
Right Side – North Section
Below is the situation on the right side.
Here is the “Hokkaido Market Food Street,” where most dining options are located.
There are two entrances and exits.
The Market Food Street features various restaurants, such as sushi bars, set meal eateries, and specialty wagyu beef shops.
Leaving the Market Food Street, continue walking to the right.
Here, you’ll find a shop selling ice cream and beverages.
Moving forward, there’s an “ITO EN’s” store.
The souvenirs sold here are mostly local Hokkaido products.
Further ahead, this duty-free shop offers not only souvenirs but also some electronic products.
Continuing on, you’ll come across Royce, Shiroi Koibito, Tokyo Banana, and Hori.
Further along, there’s a store primarily selling cosmetics.
Near Gate 66, there’s the North Lounge.
This is a VIP lounge that JCB credit card holders can access for free.
Further ahead, there’s an Ainz Tulpe.
This store mainly sells snacks and drugstore products.
Moving forward, there are two beverage vending machines.
Interestingly, you can use WeChat Pay here, but Japanese IC card payments are not supported…
This concludes the brief introduction to the duty-free shops at New Chitose Airport.
