Kyoto World Cultural Heritage – Kozan-ji Temple

Kyoto is a city in Japan that has the most World Cultural Heritage sites. One of them is the Kozan-ji Temple located in the Takao area. The Kozan-ji Temple is not famous for its scenery, but for its collection of famous artifacts. Therefore, visiting here during a season without cherry blossoms or autumn leaves is relatively peaceful.

To get from the city center of Kyoto to the Takao area, please first consider how you want to travel – Takao section. After getting off, you will see some Japanese-style old house restaurants across the street.

If you want to go downhill, you can go to the opposite side to sit.

If you want to visit the World Heritage Site – Sekisui-in Hall, you can go up this way. Normally, there is no charge for entering the mountain. However, during the maple viewing season, there is an entrance fee of ¥500.

The height of the stairs is not very high, so it’s quite easy.

The area around Kozan-ji Temple is quite unique. Only the entrance to Sekisui-in Hall requires payment, while the rest does not require a ticket.

The entrance fee for Sekisui-in Hall is 600 yuan.

Actually, Sekisui-in Hall is quite small. You can probably finish exploring it in about 30 minutes.

Just come in and take a look around.

[When the sun appears, it first casts its light upon the highest mountain.] This is the origin of the name of Kozan-ji Temple. It is said that it was given by Emperor Go-Toba.

This is a collection of “Choju-jinbutsu-giga” (literally “Animal-person Caricatures”). These paintings depict animals anthropomorphized, and they are portrayed vividly… I personally think they are worth a visit.

In addition, the other three volumes are also worth reading.

Finished reading.

After leaving Sekisui-in Hall, let’s go and explore other places.

This is Founders Hall.

Buddha’s Foot Stone

Golden Hall

Because it’s not maple season, I don’t think there’s much to see here. The autumn here is more beautiful, they say.

Above is the situation of visiting Kozan-ji Temple, a World Cultural Heritage site in Kyoto.
