Mie Prefecture – Akame Onsen – Ninja Themed Hotel – Taisenkaku

Nabari is the birthplace of the famous Iga Ninja, Momochi Sandayu (Momochi Tanba), during the Sengoku period in Japan. Due to leading the Iga Ninja to their heyday, their power threatened Oda Nobunaga, and they were ultimately destroyed when Oda Nobunaga led a 50,000-strong army to attack Iga. The hotel I am staying at tonight, Taisenkaku Hotel, is filled with a strong ninja atmosphere. Not only does the hotel display armor from the Sengoku period, but it also showcases the ninja weapons used by Momochi Sandayu back in the day. So, staying here, you must not miss these exhibits!

However, let’s first take a look at the normal situation inside the hotel.
This is a corridor.

The room doors are replaced with flower names. I stayed in the Orchid room.

It’s a standard Japanese-style room, and you can also sit by the window and enjoy the view. It’s really nice…

Another perspective

The washbasin is on the left, the toilet is on the left, there is no bathroom, and the room is on the right.

During our dinner time, the hotel staff will come and lay out the mattress…

The “Haiku” on the table should be written by the famous poet Basho.

This little snack is somewhat like a red bean bun.

Small Cake

Inside, this yellowish thing, it seems like cream, I forgot~ I just remember it was quite delicious~

This is the tea on the table.

Tea bags

A whole pot of ice-cold water~ How thoughtful! But, I still can’t drink enough of this pot~

Because there is no bathroom in the room, they provide yukata for me to wear to the public bath or hot spring pool.

When walking to the restaurant or the large bathhouse, you will come across these displays of ninjas.

It looks like something resembling a water chestnut… often seen in ninja anime.

Gun, this can be considered an early type of pistol~

Ah, such ancient armor~

Next, under the guidance of the hotel staff, let’s enter the women’s bath and take a look… It’s my first time entering the women’s bath, yay! Although the hotel’s bathing area is regularly cleaned, so there isn’t much difference between the men’s and women’s baths, there are always some peculiarities.

The women’s bathhouse has a special feature, which is the presence of a revolving door… so you can hide inside here…

In addition, this is a scene that can be seen in most hot spring hotels~ The blue basket for placing clothes.

A place for guests to groom and freshen up.

Finally, it’s the bathhouse~ The men’s bathhouse looks like this…

Let’s go for dinner. Dinner is to be had at another restaurant.
However, this place seems to resemble a barbecue restaurant~

Not long after, the food started to be served.

Is it a larger oyster or an oyster seed that is the size of a lemon?

This dish is all seafood.

This is dipping sauce.

Meat platter, vegetable platter, and shrimp

High-quality beef, although the marbling may appear ordinary, surprises with its tenderness upon tasting…

Bathing in the flavors of Ba Ding miso sauce, this condiment is absolutely fantastic for enjoying grilled meat.

Pickled Vegetables

Sashimi

Since miso needs to be heated first, let’s heat it up a bit~

I didn’t expect there to be so much smoke and haze.

Raw Wagyu sushi…. I used to be resistant to raw beef, but surprisingly, the texture is similar to that of tuna…. No wonder it’s called “Gyu Toro”… (The beef used here is all Iga beef)

Bake the clams with a bunch of vegetables and cream, all wrapped together.

Scallop + Lemon

Lobster, eat lobster every day…

I’m not sure what kind of shellfish this is.

Huh, what is this?

After opening, you will find these fruits and cakes.

The lobster is being grilled.

Beef and oysters need to be grilled too~ This shrimp is alive, so we have to use chopsticks to hold it~ Don’t let it escape~ How cruel…

Chawanmushi

Because it’s a little sour, it should be fruit vinegar~

The beef is grilled to perfection, and when dipped in this miso sauce, it’s absolutely amazing~

This is a meatball soup, quite ordinary.

Finally, we have the pudding + fruit…

Above is the hotel’s dinner… Now let’s take a look at breakfast, which is relatively ordinary. However, I think it has some unique features. What you see is a portion for two people, and white rice, natto, and miso soup are available for self-service at the counter.

Do you remember the miso from the previous night? It’s back again, this time in a grilled version, and it smells amazing! I also bought some to stir-fry with rice and make sandwiches, it’s really fantastic!

This is the morning dish.

There is also an egg, let me fry it myself.

Cabbage rolls are much tastier than 7-11.

This is dried fish, but it’s unclear what kind of fish it is. It’s quite delicious.

Fried eggs, hello!

I personally am not used to having plain rice for breakfast. Since it is a Japanese-style breakfast, it is necessary to have a bowl of miso soup to accompany it.

This way, I can actually enjoy my rice.

This pickled vegetable has a mild flavor, and it’s quite good.

Watercress + Peanut Powder

Burdock Shreds

A rather unique tofu dish.

This pickled vegetable is somewhat similar to Nara-zuke, but it doesn’t have the strong taste of Nara-zuke… nor the crispiness of Taiwanese pickled cucumbers…

This fish fillet is very special and tastes incredibly delicious, unlike the ones commonly found in Taiwan!

This fish fillet also needs to be grilled…

Above is the breakfast at the hotel.
It seems like the first time I’ve had this kind of breakfast. I don’t remember having it before when I went to Japan with a tour group…
It’s quite unique~

The room type I stayed in, including 2 meals, costs around ¥14,000 to ¥18,000 per person per night, which is not bad. If you have the chance to visit Sanchong Nabari, you can give it a try!
