If you’re looking for a bald cypress spot in central Taiwan, I highly recommend the Taian Yulin Bald Cypress Secret Spot in Houli, Taichung. At Taian Yulin Bald Cypress, you can easily use the park’s pond to capture beautiful reflections of the trees or take Instagram-worthy photos with the annually changing landscape installations! Located in Houli, Taichung, the leaves of Taian Yulin Bald Cypress start turning from green to red from December to early January, making it the best time to admire the trees. Originally a hidden gem in Taichung, the spot has become so popular that the owner decided to renovate it into a scenic spot for bald cypress viewing. Although the entrance fee is 50 NTD, the well-maintained Taian Yulin Bald Cypress is cleaner and offers more photo spots, making it worth every penny!

How to Get to Taian Yulin Bald Cypress

Getting to Taian Yulin Bald Cypress is very convenient. You can drive, ride a scooter, or take public transportation. The entrance fee is 50 NTD per person (children under 120 cm are free), collected upon entry, with no time limit for visiting. The Taian Yulin Bald Cypress Facebook page has noted a new entrance this year, located on “Zhonghua East Road,” so be sure to pay attention if you’re planning to visit.

• By Car: Use Google Maps to navigate to “Taian Yulin Bald Cypress.” There is a private parking lot next to the entrance, with a fee of 50 NTD per use.
• By Train: Take the Taiwan Railways to “Taian Station” and walk for about 15-20 minutes.
• By Bus:
  • From “Fengyuan Station,” take Bus 211, get off at “Taian Elementary School,” and walk for about 10 minutes.
  • From “Dajia Station,” take Bus 214, get off at “Taian Elementary School,” and walk for about 10 minutes.

Recommended Photography Spots at Taian Yulin Bald Cypress

Due to the renovations, the vast bald cypress forest and the pond reflections make every corner of the park a perfect photo spot, showcasing the owner’s dedication. Because Taichung is centrally located, the best time to view the bald cypress trees is from mid to late December until February of the following year. This visit was in January, when the trees were at their reddest, and the good weather made the photos even more delightful.

Although there are some man-made landscapes at Yulin Bald Cypress Secret Spot, the pond background and the vast bald cypress forest ensure that you don’t have to worry about people photobombing your shots, making it perfect for taking a few photos. There are about 4-5 spots around and in the pond where you can take photos, each offering a different view of the bald cypress trees. However, be mindful of the backlighting issue around noon to avoid dark shadows in your photos.

There are also many tall bald cypress trees and landscape art installations around the pond, making them great photo spots.
