Anping in Tainan is home to the most historical sites in the city. Besides the famous Anping Tofu Pudding, the nearby attractions are enough to keep you entertained for an entire day. This time, we specifically arranged a visit to Anping Tree House and Tait & Co. Merchant House to experience the vibrant life of the old banyan trees. Additionally, I always felt that Anping Tree House is an excellent spot for portrait photography. The tree house itself carries a touch of mystery and the marks of time. With the right location and lighting, you can capture some fantastic photos! This article will guide you through Anping Tree House and the nearby Tait & Co. Merchant House photo spots.

About Anping Tree House

Anping Tree House in Tainan has always been a popular attraction, especially bustling with tourists on holidays. Anping Tree House, Tait & Co. Merchant House, and the Chu Jiu Ying Memorial Hall are combined into one park. A single ticket allows you to visit all three places, making it very cost-effective. The full ticket price for Tainan Tree House is 50 NTD.

How to Get to Anping Tree House

Anping Tree House is located in Anping, Tainan. We chose to ride a scooter there, and you can navigate to “Anping Tree House” on Google Maps to reach it. However, on holidays, it might be crowded, and you may need to park in an outer parking lot and walk in. Since we visited on a weekday, we could park directly in the scooter parking spaces in front of the tree house, which was very convenient.

If you prefer to take the bus, you can catch the “Anping Holiday Bus” from Tainan Train Station or take city bus routes 2 or 19 to the “Anping Old Fort” stop and then walk to Anping Tree House.

Anping Tree House Ticket Purchase

The ticket price for Anping Tree House is 50 NTD, which includes access to Anping Tree House, Tait & Co. Merchant House, and Zhu Jiu-Ying Memorial Hall, making it quite a bargain.

If you plan to spend an entire day exploring Tainan, there is currently a “Tainan Historical Sites Tour Ticket” available until the end of 2021. This ticket allows you to choose 4 out of 5 historical sites, including Anping Tree House, Chihkan Tower, Anping Old Fort, Eternal Golden Castle, and 1661 Taiwan Warship Museum, for only 150 NTD. Additionally, you can use the ticket to purchase discounted tickets (25% off) for attractions like Chimei Museum, Ten Drum Culture Village and Navy Destroyer Museum. If you are considering visiting these sites, this discount package is very worthwhile.

Must-Visit Photo Spots at Anping Tree House

When you visit Anping Tree House, besides wandering through the corridors and feeling the grandeur of the tree house and the symbiotic scenery of old trees and walls, you can’t help but marvel at the vitality of the old trees.

Before entering the tree house, look for the corners where the old trees intertwine with the walls to capture this spectacular symbiotic scene.

The ancient walls of Anping Tree House are believed to have been moved from Anping Old Fort in the late 19th century. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it served as a warehouse for Tait & Co. Merchant House. In the Japanese colonial period, it was used by the “Taiwan Salt Company”. After World War II, it belonged to Taiwan Salt, and as it was no longer in use, it gradually became overgrown with tree branches, forming its current appearance.

Photographing from inside Anping Tree House offers a completely different sense of grandeur.

Currently, Anping Tree House is not only a popular leisure spot for tourists on holidays but also a favorite destination for Japanese tourists before the pandemic. Although there are fewer visitors now, you can take more relaxed photos in the corners of the tree house, offering a unique experience.

As you carefully wander through Anping Tree House, you’ll find many corners that are perfect for photography!

Outside Anping Tree House, there is also a viewing platform where visitors can walk and enjoy the scenery of Yanshui River. This is another great photo spot we discovered by chance. Using a medium to long focal length lens, you can capture beautiful, Japanese-style photos!

The nearby viewing platform, with a medium to long focal length lens, can also create a Japanese-style atmosphere.

After stepping out of the treehouse, you’ll find yourself at the “Tait & Co. Merchant House” nearby. This pristine white building bears a striking resemblance to the Little White House in Tamsui. The Tait & Co. Merchant House was established during the Qing Dynasty following the signing of the Treaty of Tianjin, serving as a commercial hub for Anping Port, primarily exporting tea, camphor, and sugar.

The Tait & Co. Merchant House is also an excellent spot for portrait photography.

In addition to its themed exhibits inside, the pure white exterior walls make it a fantastic location for taking portraits!

Overall, you can spend about 1.5 to 2 hours at the Anping Tree House. It’s recommended to visit nearby attractions in Tainan Anping as well. Take a trip to the Anping Tree House and discover these must-visit photo spots!
