Anping in Tainan is home to the most historical sites in the city. Besides the famous local Anping Tofu Pudding, the nearby attractions are enough to keep you entertained for an entire day. This time, we specifically arranged a visit to the Anping Tree House and the Tait & Co. Merchant House to experience the vibrant life of the old banyan trees. Additionally, I always felt that the Anping Tree House is an excellent spot for portrait photography. The tree house itself carries a touch of mystery and the marks of time. With the right location and lighting, you can capture some fantastic photos! This article will guide you through the Anping Tree House and the nearby Tait & Co. Merchant House photo spots.

About Anping Tree House

The Anping Tree House in Tainan has always been a popular attraction, especially bustling with tourists on holidays. The Anping Tree House, along with the Tait & Co. Merchant House and the Zhu Jiu-Ying Memorial Hall, form a single park area. One ticket allows you to visit all three places, making it very cost-effective. The full ticket price for the Tainan Tree House is 50 NTD.

How to Get to Anping Tree House

The Anping Tree House is located in Anping, Tainan. We chose to ride a scooter there, and you can easily navigate to “Anping Tree House” using Google Maps. However, on holidays, it can get crowded, and you might need to park in an outer parking lot and walk in. Since we visited on a weekday, we could park directly in the scooter parking spaces in front of the tree house, which was very convenient.

If you prefer to take the bus, you can catch the “Anping Circular Holiday Bus” from Tainan Train Station or take city bus routes 2 or 19 to the “Anping Old Fort” stop and then walk to the Anping Tree House.

Anping Tree House Ticket Purchase

The ticket price for the Anping Tree House is 50 NTD, which includes access to the Anping Tree House, the Tait & Co. Merchant House, and the Zhu Jiu-Ying Memorial Hall, making it quite a bargain.

The Tait & Co. Merchant House is also a great photo spot.

If you plan to spend an entire day exploring Tainan, there is a “Tainan Historical Sites Roaming Ticket” available until the end of 2021. Must-Visit Photo Spots at Anping Tree House

When you visit the Anping Tree House, besides wandering through the corridors and feeling the grandeur of the tree house, you can marvel at the coexisting scenery of old trees and ancient walls, and the vigorous life of the old trees.

Before entering the tree house, look for the corners where the old trees intertwine with the walls to capture this spectacular symbiotic scene.

The ancient walls of the Anping Tree House are believed to have been moved from the Anping Old Fort in the late 19th century. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, it served as a warehouse for the Tait & Co. Merchant House. In the Japanese colonial period, it was used by the “Taiwan Salt Company.” After World War II, it was owned by Taiwan Salt, and as it was no longer in use, it gradually became overgrown with tree branches, forming its current appearance.

Photographing from the inside of the Anping Tree House offers a completely different sense of grandeur.

Currently, the Anping Tree House is not only a popular leisure spot for tourists on holidays but also a favorite destination for Japanese visitors before the pandemic. Although there are fewer tourists now, you can take more relaxed photos in the corners of the tree house, offering a unique experience.

As you carefully explore the Anping Tree House, you’ll find many corners that are perfect for photography!

Outside the Anping Tree House, there is also a viewing platform where visitors can walk and enjoy the scenery of the Yanshui River. This is another great photo spot, where you can capture beautiful, Japanese-style photos with a medium to long focal length lens!

The nearby viewing platform, using a medium to long focal length lens, can also capture a Japanese-style atmosphere.

After stepping out of the treehouse, you’ll find yourself at the “British Merchant Tait & Co. Merchant House” nearby. The pure white building bears a striking resemblance to the Little White House in Tamsui. The British Merchant Tait & Co. Merchant House was established after the signing of the Treaty of Tientsin during the Qing Dynasty, serving as a trading hub at Anping Port, primarily exporting tea, camphor, and sugar.

The British Merchant Tait & Co. Merchant House is also an excellent spot for portrait photography.

In addition to its themed exhibits inside, the pristine white exterior walls make it a great location for taking portraits!

Overall, you can spend about 1.5 to 2 hours at the Anping Treehouse. It’s recommended to visit nearby attractions in Tainan Anping as well. Take a trip to the Anping Treehouse and discover these must-visit photo spots!
