Eastern Hokkaido is home to many lakes, such as Lake Akan, Lake Kussharo, Lake Abashiri, and Lake Saroma.
Among them, Lake Mashu is a volcanic lake and is known as the clearest lake in Japan.
It is said that the visibility can reach up to 41.6 meters, but currently, it is about 20 meters. It is one of the famous attractions in Eastern Hokkaido.
There are two main viewpoints to overlook Lake Mashu: the First and Third Observation Decks.
We first visited the First Observation Deck.
The First Observation Deck has two levels, this is the upper level.
This is the lower level.
The lower observation deck is outside the shop.
This is the other side of the First Observation Deck.
Next, this is the Third Observation Deck.
That’s it for our second visit to Lake Mashu~
The parking lot at the First Observation Deck charges a fee.
For small cars, it is ¥400 per visit, but this parking ticket can also be used at Mt. Io.
So, if you plan to visit Mt. Io, remember to keep your parking ticket.
The Third Observation Deck, on the other hand, is free of charge.
If you don’t have any special needs or want to save money, I recommend going to the Third Observation Deck.
